Referral website, not the contractor. How it works
Garage door repair in Lubbock usually means a broken spring, an opener problem, an off-track door or hail damage. To get help with any of them, send a request with the form.
South Plains Garage Door is a referral website, not a garage door company. We send your request to one independent local garage door company. You never pay us; companies we refer you to may pay us for referrals.
Pricing and scheduling come from that company. Ask for the price in writing before any work starts.
Door stuck open, or a car trapped inside? Leave the door where it is, don't pull the red emergency release, and send a request with the form.

What garage door repair in Lubbock usually involves
Most garage door problems come down to a handful of parts: the springs that carry the door's weight, the cables and rollers that guide it, the tracks it rides in, the opener that drives it, and the panels themselves. The table matches common symptoms to the usual cause, so you know what to tell the company.
| What you notice | Likely cause | Where to read more |
|---|---|---|
| A loud bang from the garage, then the door won't lift or feels very heavy | Broken spring | Garage door spring repair |
| Opener hums or clicks but the door doesn't move | Broken spring, stripped opener gear, or the door is locked | Garage door opener repair |
| Door starts down, then reverses back up | Dirty or misaligned safety sensors, or a force setting that needs adjusting | Garage door opener repair |
| Door is crooked, a cable is hanging loose, or rollers have popped out of the track | Off-track door or broken cable | Off-track and cable repair |
| Dents across the panels after a storm, or a section that binds as it rolls up | Hail or wind damage | Hail-damaged garage doors |
| Door is old, rusted through, badly dented or uninsulated | Time to price a replacement | Garage door installation |

What garage door repair costs in Lubbock
National cost guides checked in October 2026 put three common jobs in these ranges. They aren't quotes from a Lubbock company, but they help you judge whether a quote is in the normal range.
| Job | Typical national range | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Two springs on one door | About $150 to $350 | HomeAdvisor |
| New opener, installed | About $218 to $540 | Angi |
| New door, installed | About $754 to $1,707 per door | Angi |
HomeAdvisor puts most repairs at $150 to $400, about $250 on average. Repair makes sense when one part has failed. Replacement starts to make sense when several panels are damaged, the door is rusted or warped, or panels for your model are no longer made. The garage door repair cost guide covers every part and walks through the repair-or-replace math.
Why doors break down on the South Plains
Four things in Lubbock's weather damage garage doors: hail, wind, blowing dust and big temperature swings.
Hail. The National Weather Service documented baseball-size hail in Slaton and nearby towns in June 2019, and in south-central Lubbock in May 2020. Texas Tech's National Wind Institute reported hail up to 2.5 inches in Wolfforth during a June 2025 supercell. Hail that size dents steel panels, cracks windows and can bend the reinforcing struts that keep a door straight.
Wind. The highest gust on record at Lubbock is 90 mph, set in May 1952, and the Weather Service logged an 80 mph downburst in northwest Lubbock in November 2015. A door that's open during a gust, or one that takes a hard hit while closed, can be pushed out of its tracks or have its panels bowed.
Blowing dust. Weather Service storm reports describe "blinding blowing dust" during Lubbock wind events. That grit settles in tracks, roller bearings, hinges and opener rails, where it acts like sandpaper. Dust also coats the opener's safety-sensor lenses, a common reason a door reverses instead of closing.
Temperature swings. Lubbock's records run from 114°F (June 1994) to -17°F (February 1933). Heat dries out and cracks rubber weatherstripping. Cold stiffens lubricant and makes every part of the system work harder, including the springs and the opener motor.

Services you can request
Is a broken spring safe to fix yourself?
No. The Door & Access Systems Manufacturers Association (DASMA), the industry's trade group, calls the garage door "typically the largest moving appliance in the home" and notes that it runs on a high degree of spring tension. DASMA's homeowner safety tips say spring systems "should be repaired only by trained professionals," and that cables should be replaced only by a trained technician.
A 1992 New Jersey workplace-death investigation, archived by the CDC, describes an overhead door mechanic killed when a torsion spring plate "spun explosively under the tension of the torsion springs" and knocked him off a ladder. A medical case series from Massachusetts Eye and Ear described seven patients, seen between 2008 and 2023, who suffered severe eye injuries when a spring came loose while they were trying to fix a jammed garage door.
Things you can safely do yourself: wipe the safety sensor lenses, change the remote battery, clear debris from the tracks, and check that the manual lock isn't engaged. Anything involving springs, cables, drums or the bottom brackets is a job for a trained technician.
How to choose a garage door company in Lubbock
Whether you use our referral or find someone on your own, the same questions protect you:
- Get the price in writing first. Ask whether there's a service-call or trip fee, and whether it's credited toward the repair.
- Ask what parts they're using. For springs, ask about the expected cycle life. For openers and doors, ask for the brand and model.
- Ask about warranty terms on parts and labor, and get them in writing. Manufacturer and installer coverage are often separate.
- Ask for proof of liability insurance, and make sure the name on the certificate matches the company on the quote.
- Be wary of pressure. The Texas Department of Insurance's garage door repair handout advises getting at least three written bids, avoiding door-to-door contractors, and being cautious with anyone who wants cash only or payment before materials are on site.
- Ask about permits on a full replacement. The City of Lubbock says repairs that become extensive or replace a unit fall under remodeling and need a permit. Garage doors aren't named specifically, so ask the company or check with the city.

Common questions
Who will actually fix my garage door?
An independent local garage door company. South Plains Garage Door is a referral website, so we don't send crews or do repairs. We send your request to one company, and that company sets the price and schedule and does the work under its own terms.
Do you take requests from towns outside Lubbock?
Yes. The form takes requests from Wolfforth, Shallowater, Slaton and other nearby towns. We send each request to a local garage door company that serves the area, and it will tell you whether it can take your job.
What should I tell the company?
What happened (a bang, a door that stopped halfway, a dented panel), the door's width, whether it has springs on a bar above the door or along the tracks, and the opener brand if you know it. A phone photo of the spring area and the opener helps the company bring the right parts.
Can I open my garage door with a broken spring?
Don't try. The springs carry the door's weight, so with a broken spring the full weight is in your hands and the door can drop fast. Don't keep pressing the opener either; it can strip the opener's gears. Leave the door where it is and get help.
Does homeowners insurance cover garage door repair?
It depends on the cause. Sudden damage from a covered event, such as hail, wind or a vehicle hitting the door, may be covered after your deductible. A spring or opener that wore out with age generally isn't. The Texas Department of Insurance notes that some policies use a percentage deductible, which can be larger than the repair. The garage door repair cost guide lists typical prices.
Is it safe to keep using a door that's making noise?
New noise usually means worn rollers, dry hinges or a spring near the end of its life. If the door is crooked, moves jerkily, or the opener strains, stop using it and have it checked. A door that falls or comes off its track can cause serious injury.
